Our fundraising goal for the development and implementation of a national curriculum for gun violence prevention to be piloted in five schools in the US is $125,000. THE GOAL of the NYAM CURRICULUM is to DEVELOP a STRONG SCHOOL CULTURE for ANTI-VIOLENCE ACTIVISM. Instead of training students to prepare for violence through active shooter drills, we want to equip students with the knowledge and skills to build compassionate communities within their schools that negate violence as a solution through the support of a highly trained and thoughtful peer-to-peer network.
The NYAM curriculum develops within each student a strong foundation for catalyzing pro-social behaviors that 1) expands their capacity for building relationships, 2) engenders a creative orientation for addressing life's obstacles, and 3) demonstrates, in hands-on activities, how to address emotional and mental strain constructively by applying passions and feelings of disillusionment to creative endeavors and civic and community engagement. The curriculum concludes with students leading the development of compassionate communities in their schools that will offer peer support, community resources, and professional leadership for pressing issues within the student body.

The National Youth Art Movement Against Gun Violence (NYAM) provides youth all across America in neighborhoods besieged by gun violence with an opportunity to make their mark on the issue by using their city as a blank canvas to communicate beyond their communities the impact of gun violence on their lives and to support the growth of these emerging artists' careers as artist activists and thought leaders.

NYAM is the first non-profit project in Chicago and in the US to use a combination of art activism, commercial billboards, and Augmented Reality technology for large-scale, youth-led campaigns for social good.
